This week’s question comes from my MindsetOS™ mastermind group call and wishes to remain anonymous
This Week’s Question:
Lately I’ve been feeling anxious, even when nothing ‘bad’ is happening. It hits me out of nowhere, and I can’t figure out why. Is something wrong with me? How do I stop this?
This Week’s Answer:
First, thank you for being honest — it takes courage to admit you’re feeling this way. And no, nothing is wrong with you. In fact, what you’re experiencing is incredibly common.
Anxiety that seems to show up “for no reason” is often your subconscious trying to get your attention. It’s like a smoke alarm that goes off because the battery is low, not because there’s actually a fire.
Let’s talk about what’s really happening beneath the surface.
What’s Causing the “Random” Anxiety?
Your brain is designed to protect you, not necessarily to keep you happy. When it perceives uncertainty, unfamiliarity, or even old unresolved emotions, it will trigger your nervous system to prepare for “danger,” even if there’s no actual threat.
This can feel like:
- Racing thoughts
- Tight chest or shallow breathing
- Restlessness
- A vague sense of doom or dread
Sound familiar? You’re not alone.
Your Subconscious Is Running Old Programs
Most anxiety is a learned response that runs below your conscious awareness. Think of it as an old app running in the background on your phone. It was downloaded years ago, maybe when you were trying to cope with stress, criticism, or change — and now it keeps auto-launching even when you don’t need it.
This is why you feel anxious “for no reason.” The reason exists, it’s just buried in your subconscious.
So How Do You Shift It?
You can begin calming anxiety by:
- Noticing it without judgment. Instead of “Why is this happening again?” try, “Ah, there’s that feeling. Let me get curious.”
- Breathing slowly and intentionally. Long, slow exhales tell your body “we’re safe.”
- Asking your mind a better question. Try: “What might my body be trying to tell me right now?”
- Rewriting the script. This is where tools like hypnotherapy, journaling, and subconscious re-patterning come in.
When you start listening to anxiety instead of fighting it, you can uncover what it’s been trying to protect you from and begin teaching your mind a new way to respond.
Remember: You are not broken. You are simply running an outdated program that can be updated with awareness, practice, and support.
You are safe to heal. You are safe to breathe. And you are safe to move forward.
